If you have been
inspired by the examples of my work, maybe you would
like to telephone or email me to discuss a painting of your own
horse or dog. |

I would love to
believe that I could transport myself anywhere in the world to
see all your beautiful animals so that I could paint them. However
I am bound by a large demanding family and a pretty old car and
if you are outside the UK, I can imagine it being even more complicated.
But you never know what fate will bring in opportunity, so contact
me if you are inspired and I may well be able to arrange being
in your part of the country. |

I do prefer
to work from my own photos because that way I can meet your horses
and dogs, always pleasant! but also very important in understanding
who they are. I can often retain a surprising amount of information
at these meetings. If it is not possible, a good photo that you
think really "gets it all right", may well be possible
to work from. |
|
|
|
I will be happy
to look at images you have so we can discuss this possibility. |

I am
happy to paint to any canvas size but generally they are not
smaller than 8" to 12" deep for a portrait head and
15" to 24" for a full picture. The composition always
determines the actual dimensions, so I make my own canvases once
we have discussed details and I have done some planning. |
|
The
planning and drawing of the painting and its composition are
vital. Sometimes I can work from just one photograph but I will
spend a lot of time studying the many that I have taken. I work
very hard at this stage to express the character of your animal
while producing something really stunning to look at. The balance
of colour and tone and the movement of line within the picture
are very important. |
|
|
I paint both in
oil and acrylic paint. Oil has a rich quality to it, which, at
the moment I'm preferring and using for most commissioned and
private work. It usually
takes a minimum of 4-6 weeks to complete an oil on canvas and
I allow another 2-4 weeks drying time before I can deliver your
portrait, or to have it framed. Acrylic paint dries almost instantly
so can be finished in a shorter time. In this respect it is sometimes
more practical to use acrylic. I will produce lighter and more
sketchy works on paper but if you are looking for something special
I would always advise oil on canvas. |
|
Generally I work
on single portraits. Because the composition is vitally important,
planning a compilation is time consuming, it is not just a case
of adding another head or two. |
|
I will discuss multiple
portraits, however, if your heart is set on it. |
|
Framing is
a very personal thing and a choice made best by yourself but
if you would like me to research styles and prices, I will be
happy to do so. |
